The AI Gold Rush
AI Art is a revolutionary form of digital artwork that is created using artificial intelligence algorithms known as neural networks. It is rapidly becoming mainstream due to recent accessibility to more user-friendly interface.
The rapid expansion of AI has caused a lot of controversy, but none more than the ripples it is sending in the art world. It has added to the growing list of ethical and philosophical questions surrounding the use of computers for the creation of art. Hollywood and it’s love for exploring the many ways AI could end Humanity accounts for at least half those questions.
So let me counter that. Could AI unlock the limitless possibilities of human creativity?
The Human Brain vs AI
One of the key techniques used in AI art is called Generative art. By using complex algorithms, the AI has the potential to create an infinite number of unique pieces which can be rule-based, using randomness, or a combination of both.
How does it generate images that genuinely captivates our interest? The answer lies in Deep Learning.
This technique uses neural networks, which are a set of algorithms that mimic the way the human brain works, to analyse and learn from large amounts of data, allowing the computer to create new and unique renders. By training a neural network on a dataset of images, the network can learn to recognize patterns in the images and generate new images that are similar to the ones in the dataset. Moving from randomised image generation to established patterns that we find aesthetically pleasing.
This is a powerful tool for creation that is truly unique and has never been done before. Apart from it has... the Human brain.
Algorithms are purposely designed to emulate the processes of the brain due to its incredible ability to learn, adapt and piece together new information. It is made up of approximately 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons, which are connected by trillions of synapses.
However, as organic beings, our neuroplasticity declines with age. AI has the advantage of not being limited by time the same way that humans are.
But there is a crucial and potentially humanity ending element at play here.
AI lacks the ability to experience emotional intelligence or compassion. Something which brings us onto the most controversial aspect - Ethics.
The Ethics of AI Art
Authenticity and originality, authorship and ownership and human artists are a list of things that AI completely disrupts.
There is a valid argument that AI art is not truly "Art" or "Original" because it is created with the help of algorithms and software rather than intuition, creativity and the Human spirit.
There are also questions about who should be credited as the creator of AI art. Is it the artist who programmed the algorithm or the AI itself? Additionally, the use of AI in art may continue to increase the amount of starving artists who are simply unable to keep up with the efficiency and automation of AI-generated art.
Although these are major factors in AI controversy, the big one is Copyright.
If the AI is using an Artist's image to help generate a render, does the Artist deserve some compensation of that piece if it is then sold? I think we would all agree they should. But the problem is that AI's deep learning is constantly evolving and using massive databases of images to generate the results. How is it possible to track what images are used? A difficult question to answer.
But an even harder one is who would take on the colossal task of AI copyright and the infinite implications involved? Only the future can answer that one.

The dance between human creativity and AI innovation could be a harmonious display if we manage to find each other's rhythm.
Our unique perspectives, intuition and emotional intelligence paired with AI’s speed and efficiency could allow for us to solve a lot of problems.
AI can be used to generate new ideas, analyse data, and optimize processes, while we evaluate and refine them. This synergy can lead to the creation of new products, services, and experiences that would be impossible to achieve with either human creativity or AI alone. Because it would open up our most valuable resource: Time.
AI can be used to enhance human creativity by providing new tools and techniques for creating, learning and designing. Helping to speed up or eliminate the mundane time-consuming tasks which allows for more innovation and creativity.
The biggest obstacle we have is not having enough time to manifest our ideas.

In conclusion, AI art has the potential to greatly impact the art world by unlocking new possibilities for creativity, increasing efficiency and innovation, and facilitating collaboration between human and AI artists.
It has potential to democratize the art world, giving ordinary artists access to powerful tools and techniques that were previously only available to a select few. Liberating people who are filled with ideas but lack of resource and giving them the opportunity to provide massive change with original ideas.
While AI has many advantages, there are even more challenges and criticisms, including the lack of authenticity and originality and the ethical concerns surrounding AI art. An unfortunate yet important part in evolution. But this is just another wave of displacement that technology has been riding for decades. Change is always scary at first but we must look for opportunities that have opened up with this revolutionary technology.
The synergy between Humans and AI can lead to new levels of learning and innovation by utilizing the strengths of both. As we continue exploring and experimenting with AI we will stumble across inevitable obstacles and problems.
But in order to fully realize its potential and unlock the limitless possibilities of creativity, we must be willing to venture into the unknown and see where it takes us.
